The term 'Plaice' means flatfish and has its origins from ancient Greeks. It a term used to describe four species of fishes, namely; the European, American, Alaskan and scale-eye plaice. The most commercially important of them all is the European plaice and so is the American.

Plaice is a popular orange-spotted  fish on bar and restaurant menus that has a mild, sweet flavour.
